Exploring Pharmacy as a Career (1 Week)

We are excited to offer this unique opportunity to shadow the work of our valuable Pharmacy Team. You will be assigned to various supervisors and experience what it is like to work in various core disciplines within pharmacy and clinical pharmacy and appreciate why we are experts in medicines use.

Sample week:

Monday AM: Department Orientation / shadow dispensing PM: Stores and Procurement

Tuesday AM: Shadow junior ward pharmacist activities PM: Workbook activities

Wednesday AM: Shadow clinical specialist pharmacist PM: Dispensary

Thursday AM: Shadow pharmacy technician on ward PM: Shadow pharmacy technician (product release)

There are over 20 roles within pharmacy, but they can be divided into clinical and non-clinical. Members of the team have different levels of experience and qualifications but are ultimately working with one goal in mind: ensuring that medicines use is optimised.

This experience is offered as a 1 week placement however can be adapted for any request between half a day to 5 full days to suit your availability and requirements.

This opportunity will be held in our Pharmacy Department on Level 5 of Derriford hospital and you will have some time in clinical ward areas under direct supervision at all times. In line with our risk assessment outcomes this experience is open for applications from those in Year 10, 11 or 12 (aged 14 and above). There is no upper age limit to this experience.
